Biography

Snezana Spasic (1969) , a performer of traditional music, was born in Pirot.

Since 1989 she is living in Nis, where she  graduated at the law  school.

 After ten years of experience as a member and a soloist of The Academic choir of

the University of Nis, she has begun  an independent  research and  performance of  traditional songs from the Balkan region.

Along with her interest for spiritual and popular music she performed with jazz and pop bands. After many years of research and performance of songs of Old Serbia, she has discovered her authentic music expression which is different from the traditional understanding of folk music.

With the Academic choir of the University of Nis she had noticeable performances in the country and abroad. There can be singled out appearances  at the festivals in Greece (Tripoli, Sparta, Kefalonia, Kardica, Cassandra,  Delphi, Preveza, Korfu, Halkidiki), on Cypress (Limassol, Nicosia), in Germany(Bochum), in Spain and Netherlands.

As a performer of ethno music she appeared on television and  numerous festivals, out of which the most important were: The international festival of folklore ensembles ‘Skoplje 94’ ( as a vocal soloist of the AKUD ‘ORO’-special award), competition of folklore ensembles in Smederevo (1994,  the first place for performance of  ethno songs) Beogradsko prolece (1995), Carevcevi dani (1996, 1997), LEMEK (1993, 1994), BEMUS (1997), Niska jesen (2000, the award of the special jury for interpretation , the best song of the festival).

She held  great number of solo concerts of ethno music: Belgrade (Gallery of SANU, 1996), Apatin (Cultural centre , 1998), Nis (NIMUS, 2000), Pirot (Cultural centre ,2000), Prokuplje (Cultural centre,2001).

At the festival of ethno music, which was organized by the European RTV organization  CIRCOM in Thessakoniki, Greece, 1998)  she was the representative of Yugoslavia.

Abroad, she performed at the solo concerts  or festivals of ethno music in Bulgaria (Foundation ‘Principi’ and the government of Republic of Bulgaria, festival of Balkan folklore, 2001), Hungary (St,Andrea, 2001), Slovakia(at the festival of local televisions “Golden beggar’ 2001 appeared with the biographic film ’White Fairy’in the production of Television Pirot).

She worked together with Aleksandar Sanja Ilic and ‘Balkanika’,Ratko and Radisa Teofilovic, ethno group ‘Khazars’, Merima Njegomir and others. As a vocal soloist she took part at the soundtrack  (female example) from the film ‘Zona Zamfirova’ (2002).

She has been recording for national radio and television since 1997. Until now she has about  20 recordings.
